Case Study: Empowering Future Professionals Through Video - The Dane County Youth Apprenticeship Program
Client Overview
The Dane County Youth Apprenticeship Program connects high school juniors and seniors to real-world career experiences in fields like healthcare, information technology, education, and construction. Students leave the classroom and head to a job site, where they learn from professionals while earning school credit (and a bit of cash).
Our Initial Challenge
The program needed a fresh way to showcase their apprenticeships in action. With dozens of partners across Dane County offering a wide range of careers to explore, they wanted a local team that could capture the apprenticeship experience. Of course, in a way that looked polished and professional. This was also a unique opportunity for the Spoken Frame Media team as two of the program’s marketing apprentices led the project. New to video production, they weren’t sure what to expect, but we were excited to have them on board.
Our Approach
From our first connection, we focused on making the process collaborative and flexible to include the students. We worked closely with the marketing apprentices and their supervisors to plan multiple videos. We captured students in a range of fields, from Zimbrick auto apprenticeships to educators in training.
Filming at construction sites, healthcare facilities, and local schools, our team made sure to set up with minimal disruption while helping students feel comfortable on camera.
Because this project was by apprentices for apprentices, we brought the students into our process. They helped shoot behind-the-scenes photos, asked questions about our setup, and got a behind-the-camera look at professional video production.
Our Results
This project was an opportunity to help Dane County’s youth build confidence and spark career curiosity. We produced 20 videos, each telling the story of a different student and career path. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Mentors and students alike shared how successful the videos were, showcasing the program’s impact and helping to recruit future apprentices. The final cuts are featured across their website and social platforms.
